Best time to visit Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur has generally a clear sky throughout the year. It has a tropical wet and dry climate and the average temperature is approximately 27°C. The Winters (November – Mid March) are not very cold in Jamshedpur. Many tourist activities can be carried out easily in this season. 

The Summers (mid-March to June) are very hot with maximum temperature reaching about 45°C. The city is not that much comfortable in the summer season. The city of Jamshedpur receives heavy rainfall in Monsoons (July to September).

The best time to visit the city is between October to March. The weather is pleasant in October which makes it ideal for sightseeing. How To Reach Jamshedpur ?

Airways

Jamshedpur has a small airport called the Sonari Airport where smaller size aircrafts can land. Since August 2010, Deccan Charters has been running three daily flights to Kolkata from the airport. The airport also includes a flight training school and simulator center for commercial pilots called Alchemist Aviation, previously known as Tatanagar Aviation.

Transportation in Jamshedpur

Tata Steel and TRIL have entered into a joint venture to set up a 600-acre (2.4 km2) Greenfield airport on the outskirts of Jamshedpur in Adityapur-Seraikela region. The new airport is expected to be of international standard with a 10,000 ft runway and it is going to have the capacity to allow commercial airliners such as the Airbus A320 to land and take off. 90% of the airport’s land is government owned and the rest 10% is under private ownership. The project is facing opposition from the local villagers.

Not very far from the city are two main airports; Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Domestic & International Airport at Kolkata (260 km) and Birsa Munda Airport at Ranchi (130 km).

Railways

The main railway station of Jamshedpur is named after the most prominent industry of the city, The Tata Group and called the ‘Tatanagar Junction’. The railway junction is situated on the Chakradharpur division, of the South Eastern Railway.

It is one of the most important stations of the state of Jharkhand and runs trains to all the major cities of India, viz., Dhanbad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Alappuzha, Mumbai, Amritsar, Vishakapatnam, Delhi, AJabalpur, Patna, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Ranchi, Pune, Jammu, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar etc.

The city of Jamshedpur also has railway stations at Adityapur, Salgajhari, Gamharia, Kandra, Birajpur and Govindpur.

Roadways

National Highways 2, 6, 32, 33 passes through Jamshedpur connecting it to various other parts of the country including Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. 4 lane Expressway is often preferred by those opting to travel distant locations via roadways. There is regular bus services from Jamshedpur to Ranchi, Kolkata, Bihar, Orissa, Dhanbad, Bokaro and other places.

Local transport in Jamshedpur

The local people use buses and auto-rickshaws to move around the city. The city bus services are facilitated under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme which was launched in March 2009. The city has two bus depots at Agrico and Baridih.

The buses under JNNURM are equipped with modern equipment like GPS, electronic sign boards and computerized vending machines. The state government has also introduced around 50 LFB buses under the scheme. There are also about 250 private mini buses operating in the city.

Last but not the least, the people of Jamshedpur are loving and helpful. The government is trying its best to curb Maoist menace in the state so that safe tourism can be encouraged in the state of Jharkhand.
