Jamshedpur, also known as Steel City or Tatanagar, is the first planned industrial city of India. It is located towards south of Jharkhand, on the Chotanagpur Plateau. Jamshedpur is bordered by the states of Orissa & West Bengal. It was founded by the late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. In 1919 Lord Chelmsford named the city Jamshedpur in the honour of its founder, Sir Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata.

Companies such as Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Lafarge Cement, Telcon, BOC Gases, Tata Technologies Limited, Praxair, TCE, TCS, Tinplate etc. play a vital role in the economy of Jamshedpur. The conversational language is Hindi.Other languages spoken here are Santhali, Bengali, Oriya and Urdu. The city is cosmopolitan in nature and more like a mini metro, self sufficient and reverberating with art, culture and spirituality.
