Jamshedpur Road Transport
The National and State Highways connect Jamshedpur to other cities and towns of India. National Highway 33 (NH-33) touches the city and connects Jamshedpur to Mumbai
and further joins with NH-32, which connects with Kolkata-Delhi NH-2, NH-33 and NH-6 connects it to Kharagpur, Kolkata. National Highway 33 (NH-33) passes by Jamshedpur. Buses ply from Jamshedpur to Patna, Ranchi, Kolkata, Asansol, Bhagalpur,
Dhanbad and so on. The distance between Jamshedpur and these cities is
enumerated below:
Ranchi :131 kms.
Patna : 480 kms.
Kolkata : 250 kms.
Bhubaneshwar : 430 kms.
Jamshedpur city bus service is run by JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission). The services of these buses include Sakchi, Tatanagar Railway Station, MGM Medical College, NIT College, Adityapur Colony, Sonari, Kadma, Telco, Mercy Hospital, Paridih Chowk, Kandra, Al-Kabir Polytechnic College and Govindpur. The buses come fitted with electronic sign boards, GPS and computerized vending machines.
Jamshedpur is part of Urban development Scheme JNNURM and so the Jharkhand Government has added 50 LFB (Low Floor Buses) buses as part of this scheme. Around 250 private mini buses ply in the city. Most of the people in Jamshedpur avail of ''shared'' auto-rickshaw service and mini buses as they are cheap means of public transport.
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) was launched by Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India in 2005. The purpose of this mission is to provide infrastructural development of ''mission cities'' which have been selected on the basis of their population or because they are state capitals. These mission cities are 65 in number and Jamshedpur is one of them.
The JNAC is nodal agency for implementing the JNNURM projects in the city. The proposal has not included around 41sq. kms. of area that comes under Tata Steel in the steel city.The duration of JNNURM has been decided as 7 years beginning from 2005-06. Apart from progress in water supply, drainage, heritage preservation, and slum improvement, urban transport demands particular consideration. Public transport, including Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) such as auto rickshaws, taxi, tempos, mini buses etc. and state transport undertakings have to improve with the increase in commuting population.
As far as traffic is concerned, the East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur) Traffic Police too is playing an active role to maintain discipline.The Traffic Police introduced identity tags and dress code for drivers and conductors and around 40% seats in buses are reserved for women commuters. The mini buses ply along 14 routes in Jamshedpur. The traffic is quite disciplined in Jamshedpur. The streets are well laid as it is a planned city. The distances are not much, so commuting is cheap and easy.

Jamshedpur Inter-city Transport:
- National Highway 32 (NH-32) connects Jamshedpur to Govindpur via Dhanbad.

- Adityapur Toll Bridge connects to Expressway Highway.
- Marine Drive connects Adityapur Toll Bridge to Mango via Kadma, Sonari through the corridors of Jamshedpur.
Jamshedpur Intra-city Transport:
People living in Jamshedpur travel in the city using auto-rickshaw and mini buses. The auto-rickshaws can be hired ''full'' or on ''shared'' basis. The ''shared'' autos have other people sitting with you and it is 75% cheaper than taking a ''full'' auto.
