How to reach Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur can be called a ''mini metro''. The city has Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers as its borders. The picturesque Dalma hills surround the city to add to its scenic demeanor. Anyone who visits Jamshedpur is mesmerized by its natural beauty and sumptuous cuisine. The roads and railways  connect Jamshedpur with other cities and towns. There is an airport in Sonari area which is used only for chartered planes of Tata Steel.

Jamshedpur is the first planned Industrial city in our country. Adityapur Industrial zone houses several small and medium scale industries. This is also the reason why communication to and from various cities ought to be streamlined for business purposes.

The road network inside Jamshedpur is quite well planned. 
 

By Air:


This airport at Sonari area is a small airport spread across an area of 25 acres of land. However, commercial flights do not operate from here.The airport caters to the needs of Tata Steel company for bringing executives of Tata Steel to and from Jamshedpur.

Some well known airlines like Kingfisher, Deccan and MDLR airlines used to operate from this airport way back in 2007. However, all flights were soon withdrawn . The runway length of the airport is short and unsuitable for commercial flights. Alchemist Aviation which was formerly known as Tatanagar Aviation, runs a flight training school and simulator center for commercial pilots. Airports near Jamshedpur are in Ranchi (''Birsa Munda Airport'') and Kolkata.

A state-of-art airport is proposed to come up in Adityapur-Saraikela region and process for land acquisition has commenced. It will have a 10,000 ft. runway and commercial airlines will be able to take off  and add another feather in the cap of Jamshedpur city and its denizens.


By Rail:


Tatanagar Junction is a model station on the South Eastern Railway. After Howrah station, Tatanagar station is the second busiest station of South Eastern Railway. Other railway stations are  Adityapur, Gamharia, Salgajhari, Kandra and Govindpur. Trains for all major places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahemdabad, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Kolkata and Vishakapatnam  can be boarded from here.

By Road:


National and State Highways connect Jamshedpur to various cities in India.The Adityapur Toll Bridge has been connected to Express Highway.National Highway 33 (NH 33) connects Jamshedpur to Mumbai. NH 32 connects the city to Kolkata. It connects Jamshedpur to Govindpur via Dhanbad, Bokaro.The 6-lane Express Highway (Adityapur-Kandra road) connects Jamshedpur to Barbil via Seraikela, Chaibasa. The Marine Drive is a lovely stretch of road and a drivers pleasure! It connects Adityapur Toll Bridge to Mango via Sonari and Kadma areas of Jamshedpur.

Bus services are available from Jamshedpur to places such as Patna, Kolkata (250kms.) and Ranchi (131 kms.) including many other destinations like Asansol, Bhagalpur, Cuttak and Gaya etc.

The Local transport for commuting are mini buses and auto-rickshaw which can be taken as ''shared'' which is cheaper or ''full auto''  which is comparatively costlier. The two bus depots in Jamshedpur are in Agrico and Baridih.
