Culture of Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur is like a mini metro city, where opportunities present themselves at shorter distances! Auditoriums, dance and music classes, guitar and casio classes, piano and painting, sculpturing classes and so on are available at every nook and corner  where learned teachers impart training to mold the future generation of artists. Programmes are presented in auditoriums from time to time to develop the overall personality of children. Home tuition can also be availed albeit at a higher fees.
                                                                                   
Clubs and various sports academies and stadiums are available for the sports lovers. Sprawling Golf courses affiliated to Beldih club and Golmuri club hold national and international tournaments every year. 

Clubs have facilities such as swimming pool, lawn tennis and badminton. Indoor games include playing cards, chess, billiards, table tennis etc. The Tata Football Academy, Tata Athletics Academy and Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) have promoted sports and  trained many sports persons. They have brought laurels to the state of Jharkhand.

People here belong to different religions, castes, creed and speak languages such as Hindi, English, Oriya, Bengali, Punjabi, Parsi, Gujarati, Santhali etc. But they are all close knit and live amicably with each other.

People enjoy during festivals and wear bright and new clothes. They visit each others house,  and distribute sweets. Durga pooja is the time when the whole city is seen in assorted ''pandals'' and the sounds of drums and prayers reverberate the atmosphere.

Swings for kids and eatables all around add to the zing during festivals. Chhath is a major festival when women pray for the well being and long life of their husbands and sons. ''Thekua'' and sugarcane is given as ''prasad''.
 
There is not much of night life in Jamshedpur. The shops pull down their shutters at 9.00 P.M. The shops keep closed from 2.00P.M. to 5.00 P.M. during lunch time. The culture here is to learn some artistic skill or take sports coaching to utilize free time. Rest of the time is spent in studies and tuition.

People have maintained beautiful gardens too as most of the houses provided by Tata Steel have ample space to maintain a kitchen garden and other useful plants. Every year bonsai competition, flower arrangement competition, painting competition are held in Annual Flower show.

The markets in Jamshedpur are flooded with state-of-the-art products and everything under the sun is available. The past couple of years have seen opening of multinational brands too which include Baskin & Robbins (Ice-cream parlour), Peter England, Louis Phillippe, Van Heusen (Shirting and Suitings), Reliance Footprints (footwear) etc.

The vegetable markets serve green and fresh vegetables to people. Fruits like jack fruit, mango, litchi, pomegranate and papaya etc. are found in abundance. The lifestyle of people here is simple and practical. More emphasis is given to education and getting a well paid job for comfortable living.

The people are employed in various industries in Jamshedpur and Adityapur. Agriculture is a means of livelihood of a very small percentage who live in the outskirts of the city.

During weekends, the Jamshedpur-ians can be seen at one of these much loved places such as Jubilee Park, Amusement park, Big Bazaar and Eylex and Tata Steel Zoological Park.
 
Fairs are times when one gets to see indigenous artistic, needle crafted or bamboo commodities, paitkar paintings, madhubani paintings, wood crafts, metal works etc. at very affordable prices. The fairs start with tribal dances and music which include group performances using traditional instruments.

Today, many NGO's are working for upliftment of poor people. Education and health are the two main areas where most of the emphasis is given. Free health check up camps and free education by imparting evening classes in schools has given a boost to overall living condition of people.

The comfortable life of people, the sprawling gardens and parks, giant stadiums, good schools, 24X7 supply of water and electricity and clean roads are a gift by Tata's to the denizens here. To pay tribute to the founder of Jamshedpur city, people throng throughout the night of 3rd March (Founders day) and get a glimpse of history and achievements  of Tata Steel depicted through colored lights.
